New Delhi. Giving information about a major security lapse during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Punjab, the Union Home Ministry said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Bathinda in Punjab this morning to go to the National Martyrs Memorial at Hussainiwala in Pune by helicopter. Due to rain, the Prime Minister had to wait for the weather to clear for about 20 minutes. When the weather did not improve, it was decided that he would visit the National Meritorious Memorial by road, which would take more than 2 hours. He proceeded to travel by road after necessary confirmation of the necessary security arrangements by the Punjab DGP Punjab Police.
About 30 km from the National Martyrs Memorial in Hussainiwala, when the prime minister’s convoy reached a flyover, it was found that some protesters had blocked the road. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was stuck on the flyover for about 20 to 25 minutes and there is a very worrying thing about the security of the Prime Minister. The Punjab government was informed in advance about the Prime Minister’s schedule and travel plans. They will have to make necessary arrangements for logistics, security as well as keeping contingency plans ready, as per the procedure. Also in view of the contingency plan, the Punjab government would have to deploy additional security to secure any movement by road, which were clearly not deployed.
After this security lapse by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it was decided to go back to Bathinda airport. Taking cognizance of this serious lapse in security, the Home Ministry has sought a detailed report from the state government. The state government has also been asked to fix the responsibility of this lapse and take strict action. Today’s rally of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Ferozepur, Punjab has been cancelled. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is returning and the Union Home Ministry has sought a report from the Punjab government on this whole matter. This was PM Modi’s first visit to Punjab after the repeal of the Agriculture Act, when he would address the people there and former Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh was also to attend this rally. On the cancellation of the rally in Punjab’s Ferozepur, Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said that due to many reasons the Prime Minister is not present among us, but the Prime Minister has said that we are not canceling this program.
