New Delhi. After the corona virus and monkeypox virus, now the risk of tomato flu has increased. There have been 80 possible cases of tomato flu in India, where children developed painful blisters on their bodies. According to media reports, tomato flu is named after the red and painful blisters that occur all over the body, which gradually enlarge and become the size of a tomato. Skin rashes also appear due to tomato flu, due to which patients complain of skin irritation.

Symptoms include fatigue, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, dehydration, joint swelling, body aches, and general influenza-like symptoms. Doctors have compared the rash of blisters to monkeypox and the symptoms of fever to dengue, chikungunya and hand, foot and mouth disease. Researchers are still trying to find out what causes these symptoms to appear on the body.

So far, health officials have recorded 82 cases between May and July of 2022, all of whom are patients below the age of 5. The first case of tomato flu was noticed in Kollam district of Kerala, after which it spread to the entire region. There is no evidence so far of tomato flu that the disease is serious or life-threatening and children are being treated with the usual treatment – paracetamol, rest and plenty of fluids. According to experts, children should be quarantined for seven days when symptoms appear. This flu can also infect adults.
